Climate Change Adaptation - South Dakota

State Seal of South Dakota

Threat to Water Supply and Quality     Threat from Intensified Weather Events     Threat from drought     Threat to Natural Habitat and Wildlife

Climate Change History

South Dakota currently has no climate action plan. The State has taken some action to develop a voluntary renewable energy portfolio but has not identified climate change as an area of concern that requires state action. The Prairie Pothole Joint Venture and Plains and Prairie Potholes Landscape Conservation Cooperative (PPP LCC) developed high-resolution climate model projections to inform waterfowl and migratory bird management in eastern South Dakota. http://www.plainsandprairiepotholeslcc.org/

Current & Future Action

South Dakota is not engaged in any assessment, study, or policy action relating to climate change.

Pilot Programs/Current Studies

South Dakota does not have any specific pilots or case studies dealing with wetlands and climate change.

For More Information

South Dakota is a participant in the Great Plains Institute, a renewable energy advocacy group.
