Climate Change Adaptation - Virginia

State Seal of Virginia

Threat from Sea Level Rise     Threat from Intensified Weather Events     Threat to Natural Habitat and Wildlife

Climate Change History

At the end of 2008 the Virginia Governor’s Commission on Climate Change released its final report, assisted by the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS).  As with other CCS plans the focus of Virginia’s Climate Action Plan is on greenhouse gas reductions (mitigation), but the plan does include a section on preparations for imminent climate change effects (adaptation).

Current & Future Action

Virginia is not developing an adaptation plan at this time.

Pilot Programs/Current Studies

The state does not, as yet, have any specific pilots or case studies dealing with wetlands and climate change.

The Viginia Climate Action Plan is available from: http://www.deq.virginia.gov/export/sites/default/info/documents/climate/CCC_Final_Report-Final_12152008.pdf
